Seminar - Three-dimensional imaging of flat samples from Compton Scattering

March 6, 2019 14h • Amphitheater of SOLEIL

An imaging modality based on Compton scattering will be presented. The idea is, with a monochromatic parallel beam, to obtain 3D reconstructions from a single view without relying on rotations of the sample as it's done in conventional tomography. If the conditions are set such that Compton events are dominant,  the energy-loss information can then be exploited to obtain such reconstructions.
Avoiding rotations are justified when dealing with flat ancient materials objects,  due to their geometry and their historical value prohibiting invasive techniques. A mathematical justification and numerical simulations will be presented to support the feasibility of the proposed method.
