"Fête de la Science" 2023

Saturday October 7 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. & Sunday October 8 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m ENS Paris-Saclay

On Saturday October 7 and Sunday October 8, SOLEIL will once again be taking part in the annual Fête de la Science (Science Festival), offering the public the chance to discover SOLEIL and science through fun workshops!

For this 2023 edition, SOLEIL will be present at the Village des Sciences, this year again taking place at ENS-Paris Saclay site. It will feature over 30 scientific workshops, as well as scientific games and artistic performances!

On the SOLEIL stand, our workshops will enable you to discover how the huge "machine" that produces synchrotron light works (playing with permanent magnets, operating an electromagnet, deflecting electrons), but also to play the scientist and discover some examples of research carried out at the Synchrotron.

Workshop description

Discovering the synchrotron  SOLEIL machine (physics)

Through games and demonstrations, you'll find out more about this facility that produces the very bright light used by the world's scientific community to study all types of matter and reveal its structure and properties. Find out how the SOLEIL synchrotron's 3 particle accelerators work, based on several physical principles (magnetism, electricity, etc.).

Ages 6 and up

Light from the SOLEIL synchrotron and its applications (physics)

Scientists often need to know the composition, structure, or properties of the samples they are studying. What happens when light is shone on a sample? How can the light produced at SOLEIL provide scientists with information? Thanks to this workshop, you'll be the scientist! Discover some examples of research carried out at the SOLEIL Synchrotron.
