La section scientifique « patrimoine culturel et naturel » regroupe des scientifiques de SOLEIL et d’IPANEMA pour échanger des connaissances et des expériences sur des outils méthodologiques et analytiques utilisant le rayonnement synchrotron pour l’étude de matériaux anciens. Elle facilite le lien entre les lignes de lumière et les laboratoires et groupes supports à SOLEIL et, à l’extérieur, entre SOLEIL et les réseaux et infrastructures de recherche dédiés aux sciences du patrimoine.

L’activité de recherche de cette section correspond aux domaines suivants : archéométrie, histoire de l’art, altération-conservation, paléontologie et paléoenvironnement-paléoclimat. Étant donné les propriétés communes des matériaux anciens de ces différents domaines (à valeur culturelle, rares, précieux, non reproductibles, hétérogènes et souvent inconnus), les projets de recherche correspondants offrent également l'occasion d'étudier les effets des techniques d'analyse et les moyens d'améliorer notre méthodologie d’analyse afin de préserver les échantillons (par exemple, surveillance des dommages causés par les faisceaux de rayonnement synchrotron, analyse statistique de l'imagerie afin de réduire la dose de rayonnement).

La section facilite le lien entre SOLEIL et la communauté scientifique du patrimoine, en étroite collaboration avec le laboratoire IPANEMA localisé sur le site de SOLEIL mais aussi par le biais de réseaux de recherche locaux, nationaux et internationaux (DIM PAMIR, CAI-RN) ou d'infrastructures (FSP, E-RIHS). Elle participe à la diffusion des résultats de recherche grâce à des séminaires internes et externes et dans des conférences.

La nouvelle édition de nos Highlights rassemble 41 faits marquants sélectionnés parmi les quelque 700 articles, publiés en 2025, issus des recherches menées sur les lignes de lumière de SOLEIL, mais également au sein de toutes les équipes du synchrotron qui permettent aux scientifiques d’utiliser ces lignes.

Une étude collaborative entre Aix-Marseille Université, les synchrotrons SOLEIL, ESRF et ALBA, récemment publiée dans npj Antimicrobials and Resistance, apporte un nouvel éclairage sur le mode d’action de NV716, un adjuvant à l'antibiotique capable de restaurer l’activité de certains antibiotiques contre la bactérie multirésistante Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
