SOLEIL is the French synchrotron radiation centre, located on the Saclay plateau, 22 km from Paris. It is a multi-disciplinary instrument and research laboratory whose mission is to conduct research programmes using synchrotron radiation, to develop cutting-edge instrumentation on the beamlines to make them available to the scientific community. Opened in 2008, SOLEIL synchrotron is a unique tool for both academic research and industrial applications. It is used every year by several thousand researchers from France and abroad, across a wide range of disciplines including physics, biology, chemistry, astrophysics, the environment and earth sciences. SOLEIL relies on a source of radiation that is remarkable both in terms of brilliance and stability. This Very Large Research Infrastructure, partner of the Université Paris-Saclay, is a public company founded jointly by the CNRS and the CEA.
This position is located within the Accelerators and Engineering Department, in the Alignment and Metrology group. The mission of the Alignment & Metrology group is to ensure that the various components of accelerators and beamlines at SOLEIL are positioned correctly. To do this, the group uses specific state-of-the-art instrumentation. The group is currently made up of 4 permanent staff (a group leader, an engineer, an assistant engineer and a technician) as well as a PhD student and two trainees.
I.Mission
Within Alignment and Metrology group, she/he is responsible for metrology, fiducialisation and the positioning of the various machine components that will interact with the electron or photon beams. To carry out these tasks, she/he draws on knowledge of geometry, mechanics, optics and IT. She/he will have to handle various measuring devices such as laser trackers, measuring arms, theodolites, dimensional measuring devices, lasers and interferometers. In collaboration with mechanical engineering group, she/he assists with the design of the component positioning devices. She/he works with CAD software such as SolidWorks or NX. She/he will be required to prepare reports, presentations and some management tasks. She/he demonstrates autonomy and initiative. She/he may be required to work in a confined environment and in a controlled zone, in which case she/he will be subject to dosimetric monitoring.
II.Responsibilities and tasks
1.Alignment
·Use measuring instruments (measure and adjust the position of machine components)
·Conduct fieldwork including fiducialisation and component alignment operations
·Develop alignment methodologies and procedures
·Calculate and analyse results
·Design adjustment and positioning systems
2.Dimensional metrology
·Implementing displacement sensors
·Develop methodologies
·Calculate and analyse results
3.Perform management activities
·Place and manage orders
·Monitoring instrument maintenance
·Metrological verification of the instrument
·Planning follow-up
4.Reporting
·Analysing data
·Write intervention reports
III.Training and experience
This job is aimed at a technician, ideally with a surveying and/or metrology background, who already has experience in alignment on infrastructures like to SOLEIL. The candidate must have significant experience. However, we also welcome applications from recent graduates with relevant work experience.
