Mechanisms for the dissociation of Cl2p core-excited BCE molecule. In blue: “classical way” - strictly
along the C-Cl bond. In red: dissociation via internal rotation.
➊
Three dimensional potential energy surface for the Cl2p core-excited BCE molecule. One coordinate
represents slow stretching of the bond and another coordinate is fast internal rotation. The red arrows
mark the dissociation pathway of BCE that occurs in the core-excited molecule. The blue arrows show
the dissociation pathway that would be followed if the molecule were to dissociate in a “classical way”
- strictly along the C-Cl bond. The red and blue stars show, where C-Cl bond is elongated by 35%
and 70%, respectively.
