First users on January 23rd, first experiments under normal conditions, first scientific results and first records: the start of 2008 has been very eventful at SOLEIL. SOLEIL was inaugurated on December 18, 2006 by the President of the Republic, a widely publicized event, positive for the entire French research community. The storage ring then operated for nearly three months with a current of 300mA and five of the first phase 1 beamlines began testing of their optics under beam... issue#14 : november 2006
"First photons at SOLEIL" issue#13 : january 2006
2006 is going to be a landmark for us since it will see the start of the installations. The commissioning(*) of the ring will begin in April and should last until October. We consider, however, that a stable electron beam of about one hundred milliamps will be opened by June. It will be used to test the optics and experimental assemblies of the eleven phase 1 beamlines. Their commissioning will take place between June and October. issue#12 : may 2005
Gone with our temporary buildings and long live our brand new premises already booked up for symposia in the coming months! You will find lots of good news in this new issue of Rayon de SOLEIL and, alas, less good one too... we are behind schedule. Now we are entering the home straight! At the same time as the "Sources" group sees the first LINAC components (provided by Thalès) arrive, they are installing the girders and magnets of the LT1 (the transfer line guiding the electrons from the LINAC to the Booster synchrotron)... issue#10 : may 2004
This issue of rayon de SOLEIL is coming out at a turning point in the project with the acceleration of the construction of the buildings, which you can follow day to day on our website (it is even more impressive from our windows!) La reprise des études de définition de SOLEIL, ce que nous appelons la reprise d'APD dans le jargon de SOLEIL, est en bonne voie pour ce qui concerne les accélérateurs, les éléments d'insertion et le programme de génie civil, elle devrait se terminer à la fin de l'année... Après une longue interruption (dernier numéro en Avril 98), l’équipe SOLEIL est heureuse de pouvoir reprendre la publication régulière du « Rayon de SOLEIL » dans un contexte complètement différent. Cette lettre vous permettra de vous tenir informé régulièrement de l’avancée du projet SOLEIL, visant à doter la communauté scientifique d’un centre de rayonnement synchrotron de troisième génération... Lors du dernier numéro du Rayon de SOLEIL, paru en juillet 1997, le Groupe de Projet lançait une large consultation auprès des futurs utilisateurs de SOLEIL, dans le but de déterminer, avec l’ensemble des communautés scientifiques concernées, une ébauche des lignes de lumière qui doivent équiper SOLEIL.

Il y a un peu plus d'un an, en mai 1996, le CNRS et le CEA ont signé une convention mettant en place un groupe de projet chargé de réaliser en trois ans l'Avant Projet Détaillé de SOLEIL.
