“European Heritage Days” is a popular annual event that offers people in France the opportunity to visit historic monuments and sites.

In conjunction with the 26th annual celebration of European Heritage Days, SOLEIL synchrotron will open its doors to all on Saturday 19th of September with the objective of introducing visitors to one of its new fields of expertise: ancient materials.

In 2009, this event will facilitate access for as many people as possible to exceptional sites throughout France in recognition of this year’s theme: “A heritage accessible to all”.

The programme includes :
a “dig pit” and ceramography in the field of archaeology, skull casting and an evolution game in palaeontology, a prehistoric art workshop in conservation sciences, an archaeozoology workshop on the deterioration of bones in the field of palaeoenvironments, as well as an exhibition and tour of the synchrotron.

A team of volunteers and mediation staff from the ArkeoMedia association will be on hand at the SOLEIL site to lead activities so that young and old alike can immerse themselves in the world of ancient materials.

These entertaining workshops will give you a new opportunity to discover one of France’s most outstanding scientific projects and meet researchers and synchrotron staff.
