350 persons at the service of research and industry
By the end of 2004, the permanent staff of SOLEIL consisted of 224 persons. It will progress steadily in 2005 to reach 310 persons by 2006, when operation of the first beamlines begins, and 350 persons when the installation is in full operation by the end of 2009 with 24 beamlines.
In addition SOLEIL will greet doctorate and post-doctorate researchers who will participate in the research programs, including in the field of accelerators. In due time, the planning provides for an average of 1 doctorate and 1 post-doctorate researcher a year in the operation phase, for each 24 beamlines.
Jobs in the non-trading company can be filled either through direct recruiting, or by detachment or availability of agents from CNRS, CEA or other organizations such as universities. In this framework, a significant number of technicians, engineers, and LURE researchers have already joined SOLEIL since July 2002.
The conditions proposed to CNRS agents for joining SOLEIL are well defined since June 2002, with a free choice between three solutions:
- detachment from the CNRS, for a renewable period of 5 years,
- availability : the agent has an open contract (CDI, or Contrat à Durée Indéterminée) with SOLEIL,
- assignment to the SOLEIL Research Unit, (URS) or, Unité de Recherche SOLEIL: a CNRS unit close to SOLEIL, enabling the staff to be available to SOLEIL while keeping their CNRS status for assessment, promotion etc.. and receiving their salaries from the CNRS.
