| The Machine Physics group is part of the SOLEIL Source Division and composed of 5 accelerator physicists. The group is engaged in several activities : - Defining the parameters of the accelerators (a Linac, a low energy transfer line, a Booster, a high energy transfer line and a Storage Ring) and optimising a wide range of beam characteristics such as lattice optics, beam lifetime, beam stability,…
- Optimising in connection with the users, the different modes of operation, the quality of the delivered photon beam,…
- During the construction phase, the group is working in collaboration with other groups in fields such as magnetic measurements, diagnostics, timing system, command control for the commissioning and the operation of the accelerators.
- Developing new diagnostics and methods in collaboration with technical groups to improve our knowledge of beam dynamics.
- Developing and improving accelerator physics dedicated software .
- Exploring new modes of storage ring operation (Top-up injection, femto slicing, CSR,…)

| The Diagnostics group develops beam diagnostics and instrumentation in order to measure or improve the beam characteristics of the accelerators and transfer lines. Systems as the Beam Position Monitoring, beam position feedback, beam current and profile monitors are directly aimed at delivering good quality photon beams to the end users. Other diagnostics such as fluorescent screens, beam loss monitors as well as the position or instability interlocks serve mainly machine operation. Then, diagnostics like tune monitors, machine study kickers, energy spread measurements are necessary to the machine physicists for continuously improving the accelerators and provide the best possible photon beams.
