The SWING beamline, using radiation from an in-vacuum U20 undulator installed in a short straight section, is dedicated to Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) in the energy range 5-16 keV. The main addressed scientific fields are Soft Condensed Matter and Biology. The beamline offers a large variety of dedicated sample environments (Rheometer, Heating stage, Stopped-Flow mixer, several motorized stages), and a high reactivity towards unusual user requests. The optics was designed to allow automated measurements ranging from Qmin=1.5E-2 nm-1 to Qmax=10 nm-1 in a single session, a feature particularly adapted to data collection from very large macromolecular complexes or colloids. In the field of macromolecular solution structure determination, the innovative combination of Size-Exclusion Chromatography and SAXS ensures sample monodispersity by automatic separation of aggregates. A new fast detector, based on hybrid pixel technology, will be available in 2012 to follow reaction kinetics with millisecond frame rating.
