The SR (System and Networks) group currently manages over 700 workstations (PCs or laptops)running under Windows and/or Linux, in conjonction with around fifty servers

Two computer rooms

  • The first, known as the central computer room or RGI1, with a floor area of 114m2 in the central building;
  • The second, known as the synchrotron computer room or RGI2, with a floor area of 165m2 at the heart of the synchrotron.

Both rooms have a power supply backed up by an inverter. The initial power supply of 40 kVA per room soon proved to be insufficient. From the end of 2006, the extension of the compute cluster required compute nodes to be distributed between both rooms. In the summer of 2007, the Technical Sevices Division’s buildings-infrastructure group installed an 80 kVA UPS in room RGI1, which was in turn backed up on a central generator. The inverted power supply was changed from 40 to 80 kVA in room RGI2 a few months later.
