The scientific program of the third generation synchrotron SOLEIL is now being updated. The study of dilute species (atoms, molecules, ions, clusters and adsorbates) after soft X ray irradiation has been the subject of a beamline proposal elaborated during the APD SOLEIL period (1998) and approved by the Scientific Council. The beamline proposal has been updated this year through active participation of a large working group. The beamline will be designed for high spectral resolution performances in the 10-1000 eV energy region and will provide light with variable polarization. Concerning the scientific case, a common interest arose in the development of the new opportunities offered with the use of the various polarisation states of the incident photon beam.
Scientific committee: Marc SIMON (LURE-SPAM), Alain HUETZ (LSAI-LURE), Michael MEYER (LURE), Danielle DOWEK (LCAM) et Paul MORIN (SOLEIL-LURE-SPAM)
The workshop is organised in conjunction with another workshop entitled "Nouvelles perspectives pour la chimie organique et la biochimie dans le VUV: processus réactionnels, chiralité et thermochimie", taking place Oct 24. This should facilitate participation in both workshops.
Scientific and technical aspects of the beamline proposal will be presented. General presentations will cover both theoretical and experimental interests in the field. Specific presentations of the different groups involved in the use of the beamline will emphasize the new perspectives. A general discussion will conclude the workshop.
