Fête de la science 2010

SOLEIL Company Contents > All the news > News 2010 > Fête de la science

The theme of this year’s 19th annual Science Festival (Fête de la Science) will be “Biodiversity and bioethics: challenges for the future”. SOLEIL will participate this year by offering numerous workshops at two different locations, though not necessarily on this theme.

Join us at the Moulon gymnasium, in Gif, Friday through Sunday, 22-24 October.
As in past years, SOLEIL will participate alongside numerous other partners in the “Isle de Science” initiative with its light-matter workshop. In addition, some all new workshops will be presented for the first time this year: a workshop on “chemistry involving light” (chimie sous lumière) conducted by scientists from the SOLEIL chemistry laboratory in anticipation of the International Year of Chemistry; as well as workshops on “forges” and “archaeological excavations”, conducted by SOLEIL’s partner, the Archeomedia association. The latter two workshops will link in with research on ancient materials being performed at SOLEIL.

Programme :
Friday, 9 am to 4 pm: reserved for school groups
Saturday (1 pm to 6 pm) and Sunday (11 am to 6 pm): open to all

Join us in the Science Village at the Espace Culturel de l'Onde in Vélizy on the afternoon of Saturday, 23 October (2 pm to 6 pm)
Our stand will feature experiments on light-matter interactions and on magnetism, as well as models, films and simulations of scientific experiments; our objective is to bring to life some of the experiments performed at SOLEIL synchrotron and give you a better understanding of the physical principles used in particle accelerators.
