The BioStruct-X European program

The BioStruct-X European program, dealing with macromolecular crystallography, small angle X-ray scattering and X-ray imaging has been approved (beamlines concerned at SOLEIL: PROXIMA1, PROXIMA-2A, SWING, NANOSCOPIUM).
However, the evaluation procedure is not yet finalized. The Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) will re-open the BioStruct-X portal for incoming proposals within a few weeks. From then, proposals will be examined for BioStruct approval.

The current situation is thus the following:
1- Your projects have been accepted by the SOLEIL’s peer review committee for beamtime between January and July 2012,
2- These projects have not been evaluated by the Biostruct-X PEC and thus SOLEIL cannot use the funding from Biostruct-X.

In this case, SOLEIL has decided the following for up to 2 participants (*) per project:
1- We take in charge accommodation on SOLEIL’s budget.
2- We do not fund on SOLEIL’s budget meals and travels. These expenses will be reimbursed from the Biostruct-X budget when the BioStruct approval by the PEC will reach us.
This clearly means that you must submit these projects for evaluation to: http://www.biostruct-x.eu

So when applying for access to SOLEIL and support laboratories, we ask you to identify the two participants that would benefit from Biostruct-X funding. Then SOLEIL Travel Office will contact them in order to book their accommodation.

Temporary EU guest house support for all other fields

ELISA program ended in August 2011. Unfortunately, the CECILIA proposal, aiming to continue and extend the same program has not been approved for funding.

A new proposal from Synchrotron and FEL facilities, CALIPSO, has been re-submitted in November 2011, but this means that SOLEIL is not able to provide support (travel & subsistence) for TransNational access until (at least) May 2012.

Considering however the undisputable interest to attract European users at SOLEIL, direction board decided to facilitate their venue and will keep free the accommodation in a hotel booked by SOLEIL travel office, following the usual priority criteria for accepted proposals (for 2 people per proposal).

******************************************************************
(*) Only if the 2 following criteria are satisfied too:
1. the Main proposer AND the majority of the participants must work in an institution established in a European Member State or in an Associated State (Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovia, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Norway, Romania, Serbia, Switzerland and Turkey);
2. the Main proposer AND the majority of the participants must work in a country other than France. So Research Teams conducting their research in France and SOLEIL Teams are not eligible to be refunded.
