Chemistry laboratory for samples

This chemistry laboratory is dedicated to the preparation of sample that will be used for projects on the beamlines at SOLEIL.

 Running

  • Secured access with badge.
  • The lab can be used 24 hours per day, by users or scientists who request it.
  • The technical team will be present only during the normal hours of operation (on Monday to Friday). However, it’s possible for certain experiences called ‘red’ by the safety group to have the need the presence of the manager or the local contact. (e.g. manipulations in inert atmosphere or hazardous experiments realized at the lab). In that case, you will have to make sure of the availability of staff before your arrival.

 Applying for access

  • While completing the SUN set the main proposer has to declare if he/she intends to use this chemistry lab.

If the project is accepted, the main proposer must get in touch with the laboratory manager.

  • Then, one month before the arrival and no later, he/she confirms the access request, on-line on SUN set and details the needs:
    - scientific equipment as available,
    - chemicals and materials intented to be used,
    - activities that you plan to carry out in the laboraty,
    - request for technical support,

The request is then validated by the person in charge of the laboratory.

 Services
The technical team offers a scientific and technical support (seek of advice/expertise concerning experimental set-ups; feasibility of experiments). All infrastructure, equipment and chemicals are available to prepare your samples.

Chemistry laboratory for specific needs

This lab is dedicated to the scientific achievement of in house projects in the field of chemistry and Material sciences.

 Running

  • Secured access with badge.
  • Access requests to this laboratory must be justified by very specific needs (when specific equipment is not available in the chem lab for sample). The decision will be made by the chem lab manager.
  • Acess mode: -From Monday to Friday during opening hours: from 8:30 to 17:30, by appointment with the manager only. Also exceptionally outside this schedule, in the presence of the manager or the local contact.

 Applying for access

  • While completing the SUN set the main proposer has to declare if he/she intends to use this chemistry lab.

If the project is accepted, the main proposer must get in touch with the laboratory manager.

  • Then one month before the arrival and no later, he/she confirms the access request, on-line on SUN set and details the needs :

Safety requirements
  • All the chemicals and materials necessary for samples preparation have to be declared on-line. Each sample must be identified and must have been specifically declared according to is nature (cf.Samples and substances declaration).
  • Only gases and chemicals approved by the safety group of SOLEIL synchrotron can be used.
  • Each sample or handled chemical product has to be labelled. The following information has to be mentioned:
    - The name of the product,
    - The date,
    - The name of the project and phone number of persons to be contacted.
  • Warnings and indications in the laboratory must be respected.
  • Individual protection against hazardous substances must be used for any handling (lab-coats, gloves, glasses, steel toed shoes and working under fume hood if necessary).
  • Handling hazardous chemicals alone in the laboratory is forbidden.
  • Chemical waste must be disposed of in suitable containers (separation of inflammable products, acid, halogenous solvents...)
  • Any drinking or any eating in the room is forbidden.
